# Bancontact QR

## Overview

**Bancontact QR** is the QR payment scheme of **Bancontact** (formerly Mister Cash), Belgium's dominant domestic card payment network. Bancontact is used by the majority of Belgian merchants and consumers for in-store and online payments. Bancontact QR enables merchants to display a QR code that customers scan with their banking app to initiate a Bancontact payment.

## QR Format
Bancontact QR uses [QR Code](https://docs.barcoder.ai/docs/standards/qr-code) symbology with a Bancontact-specific UR payload ([URL QR](../url-qr/)). The QR payload contains the merchant ID, transaction amount, and Bancontact payment reference. Bancontact QR is interoperable with all Belgian banks that support Bancontact mobile payments.
