QRIS Tap
Overview
Note on classification. This entry was originally bucketed as a QR standard, but qris tap is not a QR-symbol standard — it is the NFC extension of QRIS (not a QR). Reclassified as
NFC. The wiki shows no playground because there is no QR payload to encode; the slug is retained to avoid breaking incoming links.
QRIS Tap is Indonesia's NFC-based QRIS payment system extension, officially launched 14 March 2025 by Bank Indonesia (BI) 1, 2, Indonesia report. QRIS Tap combines QRIS Consumer Presented Mode (CPM) with Near Field Communication (NFC) — enabling users to simply tap their smartphone to a scanner to complete transactions, without manually scanning a QR code. QRIS Tap transactions take ~0.3 seconds — far faster than manual QR scanning, designed specifically to address high-volume transaction scenarios like public transportation.
The structural significance: QRIS Tap is built on QRIS's established foundation (Indonesia's unified QR standard launched 2019) — extending QRIS into the NFC-tap-to-pay era. 15 banks + financial institutions supported QRIS Tap at launch including major Indonesian banks (BCA, BNI, BRI, Bank Mega, Mandiri) + major e-wallets (Gopay, ShopeePay, DANA). Initial Android availability with iOS planned later. 30 October 2025 expansion: BI launches QRIS Tap In & Out for 5 modes of transportation in Jabodetabek (Jakarta metropolitan region) — extending QRIS Tap to public-transit fare payment including trains, buses, MRT, LRT. QRIS Tap is structurally one of the fastest national-payment-system iteration cycles in Asia — from QRIS (2019) → QRIS Tap NFC (March 2025) → QRIS Tap transit (October 2025) in 6 years.
